Annnnnnd exhale…

So, the last three days did I really see the 2008 New York Mets or was that just a hiccup in the space/time continuum?  When you see things like a Luis Castillo home run and Carlos Delgado wearing a dirty uniform and a nearly flawless bullpen you have to wonder just a little bit.  After the victory last night I am convinced that the game on Wednesday was in fact was the turning point that everyone has been talking about.  I needed a little more proof before I was ready to lay it all on the line again.  I didn’t even need a win.  I just needed to see this team play to win.  I don’t know what else I can say at this point that hasn’t already been said.

Let’s Go Mets!  Yay!  *warm happy tingly feelings*

Five Stages of Grief

It’s still early… blah blah blah…

Denial - The signs were all there in April.  It was just those few games that made you feel like things were going to turn around.

Bargaining - Once we gain some momentum we’ll be okay. Once everyone is healthy we’ll be okay. Once a magical unicorn appears in the clubhouse to bestow error-less defense, amazing catches that don’t result in injury and literally makes the bats come alive (even after the 6th inning) all will be right in the Mets universe again.

Anger - Been there.  Done that.

Depression - I don’t know if I would consider my current state actual depression.  There is numbness.  Indifference.

Acceptance - but… but… Ya Gotta Believe!.  I’m a glutton for punishment.

Okay not really.  That will never happen.  It’s just so disheartening when you seem to care more about what’s happening on the field than the team.

Thankfully I won’t be able to watch most of the games this weekend but hopefully they can turn things around.

What are we here for?

The Mets in 2007 never really felt right to me.  There was something off.  They played like they deserved the playoffs more than they desired the them.  They appeared to stop loving the game and started just going through the motions.  The only thing that surprised me about September was that we entered it in first place with an 7.5 game lead.  They coasted by all year in first place only because they were in a second rate division not because they played good baseball.

After September I couldn’t wait for the 2008 season to start.  Things were going to change.  There was going to be a fire and passion to prove to the world that they were more than the greatest collapse in the history of Major League Baseball.  Every team in the division appeared to hate them.  This was a good thing.  They were going to fight back.  2008 was going to be our season.

Or so I thought.

I was sadly mistaken.

The only members of this team who seem to have the drive to prove anything to anyone are two guys who weren’t even part of this team last year.  Without Church and Schneider they’d be playing less than 500 baseball.  And the rivalries?  They seemed to just fizzle away.  Ho. Hum.  This wouldn’t be so hard to swallow if this team didn’t have so much damn talent in their lineup.  I’m having a hard time trying to understand why this team doesn’t seem want a championship.  Isn’t that the goal?  Or is just saying that you’re in the Big Leagues is enough?  Are you just here so you can get laid?

Beating up the Bombers

Dear Mets,

Thanks for the great weekend in the Bronx.  I had a fabulous time.  Beating up on the Yanks two best pitchers was just beautiful.  Not losing focus after a good call turned bad.  Reyes you looked like the old Reyes I feel in love with.  Churchie, you can do no wrong at this point.  Delgado, this doesn’t mean we’re on speaking terms (yet) but, I especially loved scoring against that arrogant turd Joba.  Good times.

Just don’t forget to call me tomorrow.  Twice.

With love,
Julie Z.

Welcome Vargas…

Welcome to the 2008 Mets team.

  • Welcome to a team whose manager will stand by his “guy” but won’t fight for him.
  • Welcome to a team who can’t manage to win a home stand against two last place teams without a struggle. UPDATED after another pathetic offensive outing.
  • Welcome to a team that shows indifference more than heart.
  • Welcome to a team who is not going to the playoffs this year if nothing changes.

So Long Sosa

And good riddance.

As much as I can talk bad about players, I really do pull for them and hope for the best.  Same went for Jorge Sosa even with is pathetic ERA.  That was until Sunday afternoon.  This is when I was watching the pitchers doing their routine warm ups before the game and Sosa was just hanging out.  Stretches?  No.  Not for Jorge. Pitches?  “I guess I’ll throw a couple if I must.” Goofing off?  “That’s what I’m talking about!”

So, Sosa… if you don’t care, I don’t care.  buh-byyyyye.
