The Will To Rock Flushing

Oh hi there

Since my last post I have been very busy. Instead of giving you a full recap of everything (which you don’t want to read) I’ll just list some events and highlights from the past few days.

Sunday-

  • Lost in Queens.  (Living nearly all of my 33 years in Queens you’d think that this would stop happening.)
  • NY Aquarium with some old and new friends.  (By new friends I don’t mean the fish. I’m not your crazy H.S. art teacher!)
  • Got yelled at by a “puppet master” for taking his photo and not leaving a tip.
  • Got a t-shirt and a voucher instead of a jersey at Keyspan Park.
  • Said hello to Angel Pagan before realizing it was Angel.  He said hi back.
  • mmmm...knish.
  • Shouted “Angel you rock!” from the bleachers.  There’s no way he didn’t hear me.
  • Watched Laura (a Yankee fan) give in and do the Angel(s) in the Outfield wave.
  • Got a beautiful sunburn which is now a beautiful farmers tan.
  • Cyclones Win!
  • Traffic.  Traffic.  Traffic.

Monday-

  • Off to the city.
  • Take photos of the Mets Statue outside of Penn.  Jeter get your giant head out of my photos!
  • All-Star Fanfest
  • Feet bleeding even before getting through security.  (My socks kept falling below the top of my sneaker. Annoying!)
  • Forced to throw out a bag of chips before entering but told my water bottle was not a water bottle.  (Yet Laura’s empty water bottle was a water bottle and not allowed in.)
  • Suffocated by Yankees all over Javitz.  I can accept this to an extent.  They did host the game.  However we still are in NYC and there’s more than one team here.  There was even a huge imbalance between American League and National League.
  • Watched Gary Carter sign autographs.  (This was fasinating. /sarcasm)
  • Dinner at a crappy diner.
  • Yankee Stadium to watch (but not really watch) the Home Run Derby at Stan’s.
  • Talked my way INTO the stadium after the Derby so I could smoosh pennies for my sister.
  • Made friends with the bouncer at Stan’s.  What else is new?
  • Realized we forgot to take photos of the Yankee Stadium Statue because we didn’t see it.  Oops.

Tuesday-

  • Slept late.
  • Hating myself for not taking off on Wednesday.
  • Back in Manhattan to take photos of one of the other Yankees Statues to make up for our mistake the day before.
  • Saw a clerk in the Yankees Clubhouse store flip off a Phillies fan for asking if they has the Phillies replica statue.  (Seriously? The Phillies fan returned it and they chuckled but still.)
  • Took pix of the Phillies Statue because it was right there.
  • Headed to Prospect Park for Spoon. Thankfully we didn’t get lost because the potential was so there.
  • Spoon rocked!
  • Missed the All-Star game.
  • Home.  Tried to find out the result of the game.  Had no idea it was still happening.

Wednesday

  • Worked.  8:30 - 5:30
  • Felt surprisingly good.
  • Walked to Penn Station from Canal by way of 6 MLB Statues.

And that brings us to today.  I’ll be heading to Mets at the Movies with my mom and sister.  How I’m going to make it to Port Washington by 7pm is still to be determined.

I wish I lived somewhere exciting like you, where there was plenty to pick from and do.  It is so dull around here and Memphis is an hour away (and a full tank of gas round trip, plus add a hotel room if you want to really have a good time).

I had to sell my Cardinals tickets for September because of my personal drama which makes me sad.  One day I will make it there!

My mom said the same thing; he must’ve been a Mets fan.

I’m tired just reading your post.  One day, we must look for and find the master of puppets again.  I think he secretly liked you.

i think i will bring him and AC/DC hat for the puppet next time.
